This transformed the way contemporary reading was done from its roots. This article focuses on some of this French history's prominent moments in order to isolate what political and epistemological value was granted upon literature and Literary Theory by the chief critical discourses that have taken place, from Sartre until Compagnon. The retrospective study of this history allows to point out which were the chief breaking moments and in which sense Literary Theory would be able or not to extend by itself a certain politics of literature. La teoría literaria, tal como surge en Francia a mediados de los años sesenta, supuso una crisis disciplinaria que partía de una problematización del lenguaje y de la literatura que transformó de raíz los modos de lectura contemporáneos. Este artículo se detiene en algunos momentos destacados de esta historia francesa para aislar cuál es el valor político y epistemológico otorgado a la literatura y a la teoría literaria por los principales discursos críticos que se han sucedido desde Sartre hasta Compagnon.
