During the fifteen years of the center-left government (2005-2020), not only were no restrictions on rights and freedoms denounced -as was the case with other governments of the similar sign in the region- but progress was made in democratization and social and economic inclusion of the country. In this article we analyze the keys to Uruguayan political stability: centrality of the parties, strong party identities, active parliament, direct democracy and a tendency to political negotiation and the search for agreements between the various political and social actors. In the 2019 elections, a center-right coalition won, with a president of the traditional and long-standing National Party, Luis Alberto Lacalle, will this be the end of a form of government? We mention the risks that democracy faces in the face of the global Coronavirus pandemic declared in 2020 for a right-wing government.
