The starting point is to locate the psychoanalytic method as a reading device that will later lead to an epistemological reflection on the problematic relationship between psychoan-alytic theory and psychoanalytic practice, such reflection places psychoanalytic praxis in an epistemology of the irreducible strain between the singular and the general. Secondly, the clinical case is approached as a fiction that is only effective as it introduces a portion of the real part that practice do has. Furthermore, some ideas are placed around the essen-tial and matrix question in every research: the formulation of questions that derive in the construction of its object. Finally, there is a questioning of two common strategies in the use of clinical cases: the vignette and the serialization of cases; plus, the analysis of some strategies of use case methodology of Freud, Klein and Winnicott. El presente texto se propone situar algunas coordenadas para las investigaciones cuyo objeto está íntimamente vinculado a la práctica del psicoanálisis. Se parte de ubicar al método psicoanalítico como dispositivo de lectura para luego abrirse a una reflexión epistemológica en torno a la problemática relación entre la teoría y la práctica psicoanalítica, reflexión que emplaza la praxis psicoanalítica en una epistemología de la tensión irreductible entre lo singular y lo general. Luego se aborda el caso clínico como ficción que sólo es eficaz en tanto pone en circulación algo de lo real de la práctica. Posteriormente se sitúan algunas ideas en torno a la cuestión primordial y matricial de toda investigación: la formulación de la preguntas que derivan en la construcción del problema. Por último, se cuestionan dos estrategias habituales en la utilización de casos clínicos (la viñeta y la puesta en serie de casos) y se analizan algunas estrategias metodológicas en el uso de casos en Freud, Klein y Winnicott.
