In the text, originally published in 1919, Heller distinguishes the institutional project of the former from that of the latter. While Folk High Schools are responsible for the civic and political education of their students, they should set aside programmatic commitments to political parties or ideologies. The possibility of such an education autonomizes the Folk High School from the Political Party Schools and establishes it as a fundamental institution of modern democratic life. Esta traducción ofrece una versión en español del artículo de Hermann Heller titulado “Escuela Popular de Adultos y Escuela de Partido”. En este texto, publicado en 1919, el autor delimita el proyecto institucional de las primeras con respecto al de las segundas. Si bien las Escuelas Populares de Adultos deben tomar a su cargo la formación cívica y política de sus estudiantes, la misma debe prescindir de compromisos programáticos con partidos o cosmovisiones ideológicas determinadas. La posibilidad de una educación de esta índole dota a la Escuela Popular de Adultos de autonomía con respecto a las Escuelas de Partido y la convierte, así, en una institución fundamental para la moderna vida democrática.
