More specifically, it analyzes what happens in the implementation of urban environmental policies that are framed in a structural litigation of environmental law, the so-called "Mendoza" case. In this case, the Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina ruled on the cleanup of one of the most polluted river basins in the world, the Matanza Riachuelo, which crosses the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. A qualitative methodology was used in which semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation were carried out in two informal settlements located in the basin and secondary sources (mainly state sources) were surveyed. We reconstructed not only the reference to formal regulations in these territories but also the presence of other maxims and social norms that, even when they do not operate in parallel to the former, have their own dynamics and logics that regulate the daily lives in the neighborhood. El presente artículo se propone, desde la intersección de los campos de la sociología del derecho y los estudios urbanos, indagar en los usos cotidianos del derecho en asentamientos informales. Más específicamente, analiza aquello que ocurre en la implementación de políticas urbano ambientales que se encuentran enmarcadas en un litigio estructural de derecho ambiental, la llamada causa "Mendoza". En ella, la Corte Suprema de Justicia de la Nación Argentina dictaminó el saneamiento de una de las cuencas hidrográficas más contaminadas del mundo, la del Matanza Riachuelo, que atraviesa el Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires. Se desarrolló una metodología cualitativa en la que se realizaron entrevistas semi estructuras y observación no participantes en dos asentamientos informales localizados en la cuenca y el relevamiento de fuentes secundarias (principalmente estatales). Se reconstruye no sólo la referencia a la normativa formal en estos territorios sino la presencia de otras máximas y normas sociales que, aun cuando no funcionan en paralelo a las primeras, tienen sus propias dinámicas y lógicas que regulan las vidas cotidianas en el barrio.
