This phenomenon, born under the wing of al-Qaeda, has shown an alarming brutality and resilience, proclaiming a Caliphate, carrying out multiple terrorist attacks in the world, occupying territories in Syria and Iraq, and functioning at the same time as a state and as a jihadist group. The international community, and especially the United States, have responded to this threat with strategies of brutality analogous to that of this group, deepening the already unstable situation of the Middle East and North Africa region. Birth, development and apparent end of the Islamic State, the characteristics of the terrorist group that modified the global jihadist movement. El movimiento yihadista internacional ha demostrado fluctuaciones radicales respecto a su liderazgo, estructura y accionar en la segunda década del siglo XXI debido a la aparición del Estado Islámico. Éste fenómeno, nacido bajo el ala de al-Qaeda, ha demostrado una brutalidad y resiliencia alarmante, proclamando un Califato, llevando adelante múltiples ataques terroristas en el mundo, ocupando territorios en Siria e Iraq, y funcionando a la vez como un Estado y como un grupo yihadista.La comunidad internacional, y en especial los Estados Unidos, han respondido a esta amenaza con estrategias de una brutalidad análoga a la de este grupo, profundizando la ya inestable situación de la región de Medio Oriente y Norte de África.Nacimiento, desarrollo y aparente fin del Estado Islámico, las características del grupo terrorista que modificó al movimiento yihadista global.
