For social studies keep its existence and achieve relevance and impact on reality itself, they must transform themselves and their own scientific status. In this line of thought, one of the fundamental paths is the commitment to generate a break between the gap of theory and practice in modern science and to carry out a scientific revolution oriented towards the sciences of complexity. El presente escrito discute el tipo de ciencias sociales fundadas y desarrolladas en el siglo XIX, que aún prevalecen en el escenario académico e investigativo, y si bien fueron vitales en su nacimiento, son limitadas para abordar los fenómenos y sistemas complejos del mundo actual. Para que las ciencias sociales mantengan su existencia y logren relevancia e impactar en la realidad misma, deben transformarse y transformar su propio status científico; en este propósito, uno de los caminos fundamentales es la apuesta por generar una ruptura necesaria con la teoría y práctica de la ciencia moderna y realizar una revolución científica orientada hacia las ciencias de la complejidad.
