The methodological theoretical approach that guides the study is Schütz’s theory of subjectivity, as well as the contributions of Bourdieu and Passeron on schoolconceptualization. It is an interpretative research, interviews were conducted with eight students who dropped out of secondary school and subsequently returned to complete it. Among the findings is the set of meanings that lead young people to decide to drop out of school. The article is divided into four sections, the first exposing notes on the notion of youth and school and the construction of meanings; the second presenting the methodology; the third the results; Finally, a series of reflections are presented in order to achieve a better understanding of the characteristics of youth. Este artículo expone los significados que lxs jóvenes de secundaria en México, construyen de la escuela a partir de las experiencias generadas por las prácticas pedagógicas que desempeñan sus profesorxs. La aproximación teórica metodológica que guía el estudio es la teoría de la subjetividad de Schütz, así como las contribuciones de Bourdieu y Passeron sobre la conceptualización de escuela. Es una investigación interpretativa, se realizaron entrevistas a ocho estudiantes que abandonaron la escuela secundaria y, posteriormente, retornaron para concluirla. Entre los hallazgos se encuentra el conjunto de significaciones que lleva a lxs jóvenes a decidir dejar la escuela.
