In particular, it examines the role of Catholic legislators in the design, debate and approval of the bill that gave rise to this organization, taking into account the background, principles and arguments on which they were based. It also studies the strategies implemented by the clergy, the press and the Catholic laity to disseminate and promote the practice of postal savings during the first years of the institution's operation. The hypothesis is that Catholics played an active role in the creation of this institution and collaborated with the State in its implementation, because postal savings harmonized with the values and conceptions of social Catholicism and, at the same time, with the purpose of expanding its influence among the working sectors and advancing in the Christianization of society. Con el propósito de indagar la participación del catolicismo social en el proceso de construcción de las políticas sociales en Argentina a inicios del siglo XX, este trabajo analiza la creación y puesta en marcha de la Caja Nacional de Ahorro Postal entre 1914 y 1916. En particular, examina la labor de los legisladores católicos en el diseño, el debate y la sanción del proyecto de ley que dio origen a este organismo, atendiendo a los antecedentes, principios y argumentos en que se sustentaron. Asimismo, estudia las estrategias implementadas por el clero, la prensa y el laicado católico para difundir y promover la práctica del ahorro postal durante los primeros años de funcionamiento de la institución. La hipótesis sostiene que los católicos tuvieron un rol activo en la conformación de esta institución y colaboraron con el Estado en su puesta en marcha, porque el ahorro postal armonizaba con los valores y las concepciones del catolicismo social y, a la vez, con el propósito de expandir su influjo entre los sectores trabajadores y avanzar en la cristianización de la sociedad.
