Within the threads that compose the life histories of women militants during the dictatorship, the experience of motherhood emerges as a significant dimension—just as, for other militants, growing up within a communist household during that same period constitutes a formative experience. This article examines both of these threads within the broader and complex history of communism in Chile, with the objective of contributing to communist historiography from the standpoint of affect, everyday life, inherited legacies, and motherhoods. It further seeks to illuminate the potential tensions inherent in the militant experiences of communist women. La tradición familiar de la cultura comunista se encuentra presente en las genealogías de la militancia: en las historias de las abuelas, los padres, madres, tíos y tías que se transmiten al calor de una taza de té. En las hebras que van constituyendo la historia de vida de las militantes en dictadura, está presente también la experiencia de la maternidad, como también para otras militantes, el crecer durante el periodo de dictadura en una familia comunista. Ambos hilos de la compleja historia del comunismo en Chile serán analizados en el presente artículo, con el fin de aportar a la historiografía comunista desde la arista de los afectos, la vida cotidiana, las herencias heredadas y las maternidades, y visualizar posibles tensiones en la experiencia militantes de las mujeres comunistas.
