First, I will examine the way in which her highly political writing, offers an intimate, quotidian perspective on military events. One of the rhetorical strategies I will focus on is the constant use of the passive voice to refer to informal circuits of information. On the other hand, her correspondence reveals a vision of war and patriotism sustained by the importance of motherhood as a discursive device, since it places special emphasis on the human and material costs of the war. I argue that Sánchez positions war as the impediment of the country’s progress, using the topic to criticize male incompetence in the management of the national project, while positioning herself as a “true patriot”. By doing so, she develops a defense of motherhood, and advocates for female education as a civilizing vehicle.   En este artículo analizaré la escritura epistolar de Mariquita Sánchez referida a los conflictos bélicos de la Argentina decimonónica. En primer lugar, examinaré la manera en la que su escritura tiene un alto contenido político que ofrece una perspectiva intimista y cotidiana de los acontecimientos militares. Una de las estrategias retóricas en las que me centraré es en el uso de la voz pasiva para hacer referencia a los circuitos informales de información. Por otra parte, su correspondencia revela una visión sobre la guerra y el patriotismo articulado desde la figura discursiva de la “madre”, ya que hace especial hincapié en los costos humanos y materiales de los conflictos. Argumento que Sánchez posiciona a la guerra como el verdadero motivo que impide el progreso del país, tomando ese tópico para criticar la incompetencia masculina en la gestión del proyecto nacional, a la vez que se erige como una “verdadera patriota”. En las formas en las que desarrolla su defensa de la maternidad, Sánchez defiende la educación femenina como vehículo civilizatorio.   Escuela de Historia. Facultad de Humanidades y Artes.
