Based on the results of 97 focus groups conducted at various universities across the region, the analysis delves into how Instagram has become the main source of news for young people, highlighting the dynamics of incidental consumption, awareness of the algorithm, and the trend towards a culture of rapid information consumption. It also addresses thestrategies students employ to delve deeper into the information they receive and to overcome the inherent superficiality of the platform’s format. This study further examines how students complement Instagram with other social networks in their search for a more comprehensive and balanced news landscape and the phenomenon of selective news avoidance. |
