However, there remains an important gap concerning the analysis of comments about these topics. And it is not a minor one, considering the strategic role accomplished by this journalistic genre within the public opinion system, setting the points of discussion and providing arguments and points of view to the public. In this thematic area, concretely, journalistic comments contribute to the formation of scientific culture and encourage the public to take an interest in science policy. With the aim of fulfilling, partially at least, the above-mentioned gap, this article presents the results of the first exhaustive content analysis of the comments about those subjects published during an entire calendar year by two leading Spanish newspapers, El Pais and La Vanguardia. Aunque la información periodística sobre ciencia y tecnología ha sido estudiada exhaustivamente en España, subsiste una laguna acerca de la opinión publicada sobre ellas. Y no es una carencia menor, toda vez que ese género periodístico cumple una función crucial en el sistema de la opinión pública al establecer los temas a debatir y suministrar posturas y argumentos al público, y, en lo que a aquella temática respecta, contribuir a la cultura científica y al interés en la I+D y la política científica. Paliar en parte esa falta es el objetivo de este primer análisis exhaustivo de la opinión sobre dichos tópicos publicada en dos periódicos de referencia españoles, El País y La Vanguardia, durante un año entero. Aunque la información periodística sobre ciencia y tecnología ha sido estudiada exhaustivamente en España, subsiste una laguna acerca de la opinión publicada sobre ellas. Y no es una carencia menor, toda vez que ese género periodístico cumple una función crucial en el sistema de la opinión pública al establecer los temas a debatir y suministrar posturas y argumentos al público, y, en lo que a aquella temática respecta, contribuir a la cultura científica y al interés en la I+D y la política científica.
