| Sumario: | In this paper I reflect on the implications of the visual in the field of media and international migration studies in Argentina. I review some of the publications made in recent years within this specific field with the dual intention of i) contributing to a state of the art and ii) making explicit the need to expand the possibilities of the visual in a field - that of migrations - in which the performativity of the images seems to be unquestionable. The analysis, without claiming to be exhaustive, suggests that the visual is still mostly linked to the configuration of sociocultural imaginaries and stereotypes about different groups of migrants. Thus, the possibilities offered by the visual as a specific mode of knowledge production have not been, generally speaking, sufficiently explored yet. |
