The analysis, without claiming to be exhaustive, suggests that the visual is still mostly linked to the configuration of sociocultural imaginaries and stereotypes about different groups of migrants. Thus, the possibilities offered by the visual as a specific mode of knowledge production have not been, generally speaking, sufficiently explored yet. En este trabajo propongo una reflexión sobre lo visual en el ámbito de los estudios sobre medios de comunicación y migraciones internacionales en la Argentina. Reviso algunas de las publicaciones realizadas en los últimos años dentro de este campo con la doble intención de i) contribuir a un estado de la cuestión y ii) hacer explícita la necesidad de ampliar las posibilidades de lo visual en un ámbito –el de las migraciones- en el que la performatividad de las imágenes parece ser incuestionable. El recorrido, sin pretensión de exhaustividad, sugiere que lo visual sigue estando mayormente ligado a la configuración de imaginarios y estereotipos socioculturales sobre diversos grupos de migrantes. Las posibilidades que lo visual ofrece como modo específico de producción de conocimiento no han sido, por lo general, suficientemente exploradas.
