I15-R196-article-4392024-10-14T14:46:17Z Modern architecture and the publishing field: The intellectual project of Infinito (1954-1964) La arquitectura moderna y el campo editorial : El proyecto intelectual de Infinito (1954-1964) Brandoni, Ana Inés Marquez, Pamela Emilse Editorial Infinito arquitectura moderna Buenos Aires publishing house Infinito modern architecture Buenos Aires This article addresses the study of Infinito, a publishing house in Buenos Aires which was the first Spanish-speaking editorial company dedicated to texts on topics of architecture, urban planning, and design. Although it is a long-standing publishing house that still exists, this research proposes a periodization that begins with its emergence in 1954 and covers its first ten years. Throughout this period, it dealt almost exclusively with the translation of foreign texts. The hypothesis is that the publishing house participated in the consolidation and institutionalization of modern architecture in Argentina since the mid-1950s, to the extent that it gave visibility and materiality to its discourse. In this sense, the study conceives Infinito as a significant cultural product which did not confine itself to be a mere witness of what was taking place in the architectural and design fields. It also played an active role in the disciplinary shaping through its written and visual discourses as well as its own material construction.
