Sumario:The aim of this article is to highlight the need of building public education proposals grounded on communities as core features of their pedagogical and architectural development. The starting point lies in the reflection on the situation of the Initial Level at large and the access difficulties for the most vulnerable sectors, where poverty rates account for more than half of child population. Experiences of participation and self-management in educational practices characterizing the initial level as well as forms of social construction of the habitat in school infrastructure are dealt with. The relationship between these practices and the public administration is also addressed. Furthermore, possibilities of giving rise to new experiences encouraging community participation and management from the beginning of the architectural-pedagogical project are analyzed through the review of current modes of school infrastructure production.
