This view is grounded on both the polysemy of the concept of frontier and the extensive fieldwork carried out throughout more than two decades in Southern Mexico and Central America’s borderlands. A set of pictures illustrating these relationships reveals multiple crossroads emerging from empirical observation along with a theoretical analysis based on two sources. El ensayo invita a reflexionar en torno a las relaciones entre aguas y fronteras desde la perspectiva de los territorios concebidos como yuxtapuestos, en constante transformación e inscritos en tiempos y espacios particulares. Se fundamenta en la polisemia del concepto de fronteras y en un trabajo de campo de más de dos décadas en escenarios fronterizos del sur de México y de Centroamérica. A partir de una serie de ilustraciones de las relaciones, se evidencian las encrucijadas múltiples que surgen en la observación empírica, y cuando se plantea su análisis teórico en dos vertientes.
