description  El desarrollo agroindustrial privilegiado por diferentes factores desde fines del XIX y uno de cuyas beneficiarias es la economía tucumana, fue percibido por la opinión pública contemporánea como expresión del crecimiento económico, integración de la población europea y protección del Estado a través de la política arancelaria. Sin embargo, en la década de 1920, por un conjunto de factores, entre los cuales no estuvo ausente la primera guerra mundial, se difunden visiones a favor del librecambio, originando críticas hacia la industria azucarera desde los partidos políticos a nivel nacional. Esto provocó la respuesta regionalista, por parte de los actores sociales y políticos tucumanos, en defensa de su incipiente industria.
