Sumario:This paper constitutes the text of the plenary talk gave at the 8th. Congress of Latin American Statistical Societies developed in the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of the Republic, Montevideo, Uruguay, in October 2008. A position on the teaching of Statistics in the social sciences outlines the experience of the author in degree, post-graduate and teacher training in social sciences courses product. Some reasons for the resistance to learn are stated among which an inappropriate interpretation of the use of quantitative methods and concepts about the distinction between quantitative and qualitative and on the construction of scientific data are presented. Educational experiences results are exposed and best practices are suggested.
