description El conocimiento sobre las guerras ocurridas desde la antigüedad hasta nuestros días tradicionalmente se ha resumido en unos pocos y grandilocuentes nombres acompañados de cifras colosales que, a la vez que encubren a las víctimas desaparecidas, no hacen más que contribuir a la supuesta, y a veces paradójica, gloria de los vencedores. La historia sobre las guerras consistía entonces en narrar unas cuantas batallas y hazañas “heroicas”, entre las que no había lugar para la vida o la muerte de la gente común. Sin embargo, desde hace algunos años la Nueva Historia Militar se ha abierto camino buscando producir interpretación histórica desde otros ángulos, atendiendo a la interrelación de los conflictos bélicos con las esferas económica, política y social, así como preocupándose por las repercusiones de los mismos en un nivel más holístico e integrador que busca incluir asimismo a las víctimas olvidadas. En este sentido, el presente volumen viene a sumarse a las filas de esta tendencia historiográfica y tiene por objetivo primordial analizar el impacto de las guerras sobre la población civil en distintos momentos de la historia del Cercano Oriente antiguo.
