description Improve the training of Chemistry teachers through the development of projects and actions that could strengthen the field of practice and lead the licensee to the reflective exercise of the relationship between theory and professional teaching practice, using different activities on teaching and school learning, among other didactics and methodologies, immersed in a continuous, systematized, oriented and coordinated way, were the goals of the pedagogical residency in Chemistry project of the Chemistry Degree course at the Federal University of Mato Grosso – Brazil, developed on the period from August 2018 to January 2020. In this article, we present and discuss this experience with a focus on transforming the notion of formative process, for the licensee and for the training institution that was based on the epistemology of practice to transform the knowledge produced through the supervised internship. The professional reality called out their needs and these could be treated, discussed, theorized, problematized from the residency program. It seems that the success of a successful initial training is in the professional environment (at school) and not necessarily at the university.
