description In this essay I analyze the relationship between material culture and religion as figured in the Pindaric Epinikia and the bonds such relationship allows to establish with dedicatory epigrams and the objects on which these were inscribed. I take into consideration syntactic, semantic and thematic parallelisms between both genres, as well as the characterization of the Pindaric ode as a precious object (ἄγαλµα) fashioned by an artist imbued with a particular skill (σοφία). Finally I study the different actions (dedicate, receive, give) involved in the processes of an object’s consecration to the gods and the ways in which such actions are figured in Pindar´s poems.
