description This article aims at understanding the connection that the American poet Thomas Merton felt with the Spanish one Federico García Lorca, based on their consideration of New York City. Exploring the archives may throw light into the attitudes and thoughts they share. The article revisits Poet in New York, the letters that Lorca wrote to his family at the time he started composing the book, and the Conference about it; the article revisits also Thomas Merton’s autobiography The Seven Storey Mountain and some of his letters about New York City. By comparing both authors’ texts, it is possible to notice their common attitude towards the metropolis and the contrast they set between it and Cuba.
