Sumario:Baroque representation from its Catholic aesthetical origins to its contemporary function as a postcolonial ideology disrupts power structures. The expanded baroque spirit proposed by D´Ors, Guido or Lezama Lima recovers non-European cultural energies and provides the vehicle needed to pursue the question of Latin American identity and self-definition. Latin American neo-baroque, unlike international postmodernism, is countermodern.
