| Sumario: | The languages of the peoples maintain a close relationship with their culture. This relationship is not necessarily biunivocal (one language, one culture, and vice versa) but multivocal (one language, different cultures, and vice versa). Transnational and transcontinental languages, such as Spanish, are manifestly multicultural in origin and geography, though they finally converge interculturally.This panoramic article summarizes the geo-cultural fields which act as differentiating factors within the geolectal varieties of Spanish that hinder, to a greater or lesser extent, translectal intelligibility. This difficulty is reflected in two semiotically different complementary levels, the denotative and the connotative. Each of them has its own requirements. Connotation is very important for communication in depth. The guiding principle of our research can be thus formulated: "The optimal level of translectal and transidiomatic communication is only achieved if the pragmatic transfer of connotative meaning of lectally marked texts is guaranteed."The mechanisms of immediate understanding (without intermediaries) of lectally marked texts differ from those of intercultural mediators such as translators that require direct understanding, but indirect and vicarious expression.Finally, translation guidelines pragmatically equivalent to a greater or lesser extent are discussed (interlectal and supralectal translation, respectively). |
