| Sumario: | This article explores the rewriting of a biblical episode in Juan José Saer's La ocasión (1987): the "theatrical allegory" Los reyes magos, a fictional work attributed to Garay López, one of the characters, and which we know through a summary, referred by its intradiegetic author to the protagonist, Bianco.
Our work is divided into three sections. First, we characterise Saer's rewriting operations on the biblical hypotext, by recovering categories from Genette's theory of transtextuality. Secondly, we jote down some ideas about the function of this work-within-the-work in relation to the novel as a whole. Finally, as a conclusion, we propose a general approach to Saer’s rewriting of the Bible in his novels. |
