He's considered the "prince of brazilian poets" and published his first collection of poems, called Poesías, in 1888. He also wrote short stories, chronicles, speeches and poetry for children. Bilac's journalistic work spanned about thirty years and included the publication of chronicles in the Brazilian newspapers and magazines of the time –he even published in La Nación in Buenos Aires. The aim of this paper is to discursively analyze the way in which the urban experience operates in a selection of chronicles published in the Gazeta de noticias of Rio de Janeiro, between 1897 and 1900. Olavo Bilac (Río de Janeiro 1865-1918) es una de las figuras más representativas del parnasianismo en Brasil. Considerado “el príncipe de los poetas brasileños”, publicó su primer poemario llamado Poesías en 1888 y también escribió cuentos, crónicas, discursos de asuntos diversos y poesías para niños.   La labor periodística de Bilac se extendió alrededor de treinta años y comprende la publicación de crónicas en los periódicos y revistas brasileñas de la época —incluso llegó a publicar en La Nación de Buenos Aires—. En el presente artículo se pretende analizar discursivamente el modo en que se construye la experiencia urbana en una selección de crónicas publicadas en la Gazeta de noticias de Río de Janeiro, entre 1897 y 1900.
