From this perspective, I point out the dynamics developed between the currents of modernism and naturalism, configuring a complex sense based on procedures and images that constitute paradoxical and surprising effects. I try to develop the tension that characterizes Horacio Quiroga's prose in his own way, the axis of the disease, and how it takes on a unique shape in the context of the early years of the 20th century. En este trabajo procuro analizar el libro de relatos Cuentos de amor, de locura y de muerte de Horacio Quiroga. Desde esta perspectiva, señalo la dinámica desenvuelta entre las corrientes del modernismo y del naturalismo, configurando un complejo sentido a partir de procedimientos y de imágenes que constituyen efectos paradójicos y sorpresivos. De este modo, la tensión que caracteriza la prosa de Horacio Quiroga, el eje de la enfermedad, cobra una forma singular en el contexto de los primeros años del siglo XX.
