description The article presents the emerging knowledge at the intersection of the pandemic as a social event and the intensification of academic work in the Uruguayan public university. It is part of a broader research that seeks to understand the teaching experience of university professors in a social and institutional context marked by processes of diversification, intensification and individualization of academic life. It was based on a qualitative methodology with in-depth interviews that covered dimensions of the biographies and academic paths of male and female experienced professors with levels 3, 4 and 5, from the three macro-areas of the University. From their voices, the pandemic appears as an exacerbation of what was already happening: remote working, the availability to always be connected, the non-separation of free and work time, or of the university space and the home. Professors experience themselves as subjects of the moment, required to react faster and faster, affected by dizzying production times and the permanent need to define times, spaces, priorities in relation to a heterogeneity of tasks to take care of. They are torn between the suffering caused by the demands they put on themselves, the intensification of academic work, and the love of their discipline, of research, of teaching, of extension. Nowadays, post-pandemic times invite us not to forget, to stop and reflect, to get in touch with The Slow Professor.

El artículo presenta el conocimiento emergente en el cruce de la pandemia como acontecimiento social y la intensificación del trabajo académico en la universidad pública uruguaya. Forma parte de una investigación más amplia que buscó comprender la experiencia de enseñanza de los docentes de la universidad en un contexto social e institucional signado por procesos de diversificación, intensificación e individualización de la vida académica. Se sustentó en una metodología cualitativa, entrevistas en profundidad que abarcan dimensiones de sus biografías y trayectos académicos. Docentes universitarios con trayectoria en el servicio correspondiente (grados3, 4 y 5), varones y mujeres de las tres macro-áreas de la Universidad. Desde sus voces, la pandemia aparece como exacerbación de lo que ya venía siendo: el teletrabajo, la disposición a estar siempre conectado, la no separación del tiempo libre y de trabajo, del espacio de la universidad y del hogar. El docente se vive como sujeto del instante, exigido a reaccionar cada vez más rápido. Tiempos vertiginosos de producción lo abarcan así como la necesidad permanente de definir tiempos, espacios, prioridades en relación con una heterogeneidad de tareas a saldar. Se debate entre el padecimiento dado por la exigencia de sí ante la intensificación del trabajo académico y el amor a su disciplina, a la investigación, a la enseñanza, a la extensión. Hoy, la pos-pandemia los invita a no olvidar, a parar y reflexionar, a contactar con The Slow Professor. O artigo apresenta o conhecimento emergente na cruz da pandemia como acontecimento social e a intensificação do trabalho acadêmico na universidade pública do Uruguai. Faz parte de uma investigação mais ampla que procurou compreender a experiência de ensino dos docentes da universidade em um contexto social e institucional marcado por processos de diversificação, intensificação e individualização da vida acadêmica. Baseou-se numa metodologia qualitativa, entrevistas em profundidade que abrangeram dimensões das suas biografias e trajetórias acadêmicas. Docentes universitários com trajetória no serviço correspondente (graus 3, 4 e 5), homens e mulheres das três macroáreas da Universidade. Desde suas vozes, a pandemia surge como uma exacerbação do que já estava acontecendo: o teletrabalho, a disposição para estar sempre conectado, sem existir uma separação do tempo livre e do trabalho, do espaço da universidade e do lar. O docente vive como sujeito do instante, sendo exigido para ter uma reação cada vez mais rápida. O abrangem os tempos vertiginosos de produção, bem como a permanente necessidade de definir tempos, espaços, prioridades em relação a uma heterogeneidade de tarefas a completar. Ele está dividido entre o sofrimento causado pelas exigências de si mesmo diante da intensificação do trabalho acadêmico e o amor à sua disciplina, à pesquisa, ao ensino, à extensão.  Hoje, a pós-pandemia convida a não esquecer, a parar e refletir, a contata com The Slow Professor.
