The Brazilian higher education system went through an unprecedented transformation in the first decades of the 21st century, with an expansion of private institutions with profitable purposes and a quick distant learning development. Thus, this quantitative and descriptive study analyses the higher education performance in Brazil based on indicators of flows from students starting undergraduate courses in 2015 that were followed until 2020, based on data by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira. The research revealed low performance according to the trajectory follow-up indicators, with high rates of abandonment and low ones of permanence and conclusion, mainly in institutions with profitable purposes and in distant learning courses. La educación superior brasileña viene pasando por una transformación inédita en las primeras décadas del siglo XXI, con mayor participación de instituciones privadas con fines de lucro y un veloz crecimiento de la educación remota. Este estudio cuantitativo y descriptivo analiza el desempeño de la educación superior en Brasil a partir de indicadores de flujos de ingresantes a cursos de grado en 2015 que fueron monitoreados hasta 2020, de acuerdo con los datos producidos por el Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira. La investigación reveló bajo rendimiento en los indicadores de seguimiento de trayectoria, con altas tasas de abandono y bajas tasas de permanencia y conclusión, en especial en las instituciones con fines de lucro y en cursos a distancia. A educação superior brasileira passa por transformação sem precedentes nas primeiras décadas do século XXI, com expansão da participação de instituições privadas com fins lucrativos e rápido crescimento da educação a distância. Assim, este estudo, de caráter quantitativo e descritivo, analisa o desempenho da educação superior no Brasil a partir de indicadores de fluxos de estudantes ingressantes em cursos de graduação em 2015 acompanhados até 2020, conforme dados produzidos pelo Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira. A pesquisa revelou baixo desempenho sob o prisma dos indicadores de acompanhamento de trajetória, com elevadas taxas de desistência e baixas de permanência e conclusão, especialmente nas instituições com fins lucrativos e em cursos a distância.
