Pedology consists of an accepted body of laws and theories that cover a range of relates ideas and concepts to the definition of soil. When considering soils as natural bodies of the most external part of the earth's crust, within the Earth system, constituted by horizons and/or layers that differ from the original material due to the action of the soil-forming factors, it is possible to understand the link between Pedology and Geology. The relations between both disciplines are included in the study of parental material, landscape and climate. Los objetivos del presente trabajo son realizar una síntesis del desarrollo de la Pedología como ciencia a lo largo del tiempo, y profundizar el conocimiento de su vínculo con la Geología. Para tal fin, se presentan diferentes enfoques en la definición del sistema suelo y de las disciplinas Pedología y Ciencia del Suelo, y su modificación en el tiempo y espacio. La Pedología consiste en un conjunto de leyes y teorías aceptadas que cubren una gama de ideas y conceptos relacionados con la definición del suelo. La consideración de los suelos como cuerpos naturales que ocupan la parte más externa de la corteza terrestre del sistema Tierra, formados por horizontes y/o capas que se distinguen del material originario por la actuación de los factores de formación, permite entender el vínculo de la Pedología con la Geología. Las relaciones entre ambas disciplinas se enmarcan en el estudio del material parental, el paisaje y el clima.
