| Sumario: | Abel Peirano, chemist, pharmacian, made a university career at UBA and in Tucumán, from the 1920s, he was professor of Geology at the University of that city. Author of numerous publications in this specialty, he discovered the important mining district of Farallón Negro, in Catamarca, he was the creator of the Jujuy Institute of Geology and Mining and the Department of Geology at the Miguel Lillo Institute of the University of Tucumán. His contributions to the geological knowledge of the Argentine northwest made it grant him the distinction of Doctor Honoris Causa. The fruit of its mining findings was transferred to the UNT so that it could exploit the deposits that would later constitute, with the province of Catamarca, the state-owned company Yacimientos Mineros Agua de Dionisio (YMAD) that not only launched the exploitation of the vein area auro-argentífera but also the scattered cupro-gold body of “Bajo de la Alumbrera”. |
