Creación de YMAD. Abel Peirano, chemist, pharmacian, made a university career at UBA and in Tucumán, from the 1920s, he was professor of Geology at the University of that city. Author of numerous publications in this specialty, he discovered the important mining district of Farallón Negro, in Catamarca, he was the creator of the Jujuy Institute of Geology and Mining and the Department of Geology at the Miguel Lillo Institute of the University of Tucumán. His contributions to the geological knowledge of the Argentine northwest made it grant him the distinction of Doctor Honoris Causa. The fruit of its mining findings was transferred to the UNT so that it could exploit the deposits that would later constitute, with the province of Catamarca, the state-owned company Yacimientos Mineros Agua de Dionisio (YMAD) that not only launched the exploitation of the vein area auro-argentífera but also the scattered cupro-gold body of “Bajo de la Alumbrera”. Abel Peirano, químico, farmacéutico hizo su carrera universitaria en la UBA y en Tucumán; desde la década de 1920, se desempeñó como profesor de Geología en la Universidad de dicha ciudad. Autor de numerosas publicaciones en esta especialidad, descubrió el importante distrito minero de Farallón Negro, en Catamarca, fue creador del Instituto de Geología y Minería de Jujuy y del Departamento de Geología en el Instituto Miguel Lillo de la Universidad de Tucumán. Sus aportes al conocimiento geológico del noroeste argentino hicieron que ésta le otorgara la distinción de Doctor Honoris Causa. El fruto de sus hallazgos mineros fue cedido a la UNT para que ésta explotara los yacimientos que luego constituyeran, con la provincia de Catamarca, la empresa estadual Yacimientos Mineros Agua de Dionisio (YMAD) que no solo puso en marcha la explotación del área de vetas auro-argentífera sino también el cuerpo diseminado cupro-aurífero de “Bajo de la Alumbrera”.
