However, the greatest rupture was produced by the work of the Uruguayan artist Torres García 80 years ago with his map America Inverted from 1943, which is still valid today, especially in the political demands of Latin America. Indeed, we see this map, which continues to be an icon of the union of South America, represented in various media, including tattoos; however, many are unaware of its authorship. This text aims to make a small reflection on this work of art and its links with cartography, and investigate the figure of its author. A lo largo de la historia de la cartografía hubo imágenes que intentaron transgredir y desafiar las representaciones tradicionales del mundo, por ejemplo, la proyección de Gall-Peters en la década de 1970. Sin embargo, la mayor ruptura la produjo la obra del artista uruguayo Torres García hace 80 años con su mapa América Invertida de 1943 y, que actualmente, sigue vigente sobre todo en las reivindicaciones políticas de América Latina. Efectivamente este mapa que sigue siendo icono de la unión de América, del Sur lo vemos representado en diversos soportes incluso tatuajes, no obstante, muchos desconocen su autoría. Este texto pretende hacer una pequeña reflexión en torno a esta obra de arte y sus vínculos con la cartografía, e indagar sobre la figura de su autor. Ao longo da história da cartografia houve imagens que tentaram transgredir e desafiar as representações tradicionais do mundo, como por exemplo a projeção de Gall-Peters na década de 1970. No entanto, uma maior ruptura foi produzida pelo trabalho do artista uruguaio Torres García 80 anos atrás, com seu mapa da América Invertida de 1943, que ainda hoje continua atual, principalmente nas reivindicações políticas da América Latina. Vemos este mapa, que continua a ser um ícone da união da América do Sul, representado em vários suportes, incluindo tatuagens, embora por vezes sua autoria seja desconhecida. Este texto pretende fazer uma pequena reflexão sobre esta obra de arte e suas ligações com a cartografia, e buscar saber algo sobre o autor. Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades.
