Althussers’answer to this question has been to distinguish three kinds of concepts, according to their function in the “theoretical practice” (raw material, instruments and scientific product). We will evaluate Althusser solution (a) as a way of ellucidating the paradox, and (b) as a way of clarify the complex relationships between ideology and science.Es paradojal el argumento que abre el “Método de la economía política” (1857): “parece cierto comenzar por lo real y lo concreto (…) en economía, por la población (…) Pero (…) eso se revela falso”, porque tendríamos “inicialmente una representación caótica del todo”. Deberíamos entonces comenzar por el ideal y el abstracto? La respuesta de Althusser ha consistido en distinguir tres tipos de conceptos, según su función en la “práctica teórica” (materia prima, instrumentos y producto científico). Examinamos en qué medida esta solución es pertinente para (a) elucidar la paradoja, y (b) deslindar las complejas relaciones entre ideología y ciencia.
