In this line, and given the importance of educational institutions in the training for sustainable development, it is important to know the level of environmental sensitivity of school communities leading to the design of strategies framed in the concept of social responsibility. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the behavior of a school community in the San Juan Metropolitan Area with respect to environmental care, the use of electricity, gas, water and recycling, by applying the School Community Environmental Sensitivity Index developed in the framework of the research project ‘Metodología de evaluación y calificación de la sustentabilidad ambiental para escuelas. Aplicación en casos de estudio del Área Metropolitana de San Juan’. The results, transferred to a label, aim to achieve a greater understanding of the community as a whole. Although it is concluded that the case study presents an environmentally sustainable performance by reaching a B level, aspects to be improved can be inferred. En un contexto de emergencia climática asociada al uso indiscriminado de los recursos energéticos y materiales, apremia diseñar herramientas que aporten a la formulación de políticas en la materia. En esta línea, y dada la importancia que adquieren los establecimientos educativos en la formación para el desarrollo sostenible, resulta importante conocer el nivel de sensibilidad ambiental de las comunidades escolares conducentes al diseño de estrategias enmarcadas en el concepto de responsabilidad social. En consecuencia, el presente trabajo tiene por objeto evaluar el comportamiento de una comunidad escolar del Área Metropolitana de San Juan en lo referido al cuidado del ambiente, el uso de la energía eléctrica, el gas, el agua y el reciclado, mediante la aplicación del Índice de Sensibilidad Ambiental de la Comunidad Escolar desarrollado en el marco del Proyecto de Investigación “Metodología de evaluación y calificación de la sustentabilidad ambiental para escuelas. Aplicación en casos de estudio del Área Metropolitana de San Juan”. Los resultados, transferidos a una etiqueta, persiguen alcanzar una mayor aprehensión de la comunidad en su conjunto. Si bien se concluye que el caso de estudio presenta un desempeño ambientalmente sustentable por alcanzar un nivel B, se pueden inferir los aspectos por mejorar.
