The aim of this paper is to analyze the dynamics of competition and capital profitability of some of the leading companies in the global technology market, identified as the Western and Eastern "technology giants" (GT): Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft for the first case (the so-called "GAFAM" group) and Alibaba, Tencent and Huawei as the major exponents of the Eastern case (ATH). We draw on the theoretical debates raised by perspectives on capitalism that place knowledge and the concentration of capital on the basis of technological mastery as pillars of contemporary production systems, under different complementary conceptualizations such as platform capitalism, cognitive capitalism, monopolistic intellectual capitalism and others. From the empirical analysis carried out, we find that GAFAM-ATH companies dispute the leadership of the global technological market on the basis of a predominantly rentier and hyper-concentrated scheme of competition between giant firms, and we propose the notion of technological oligopolies to characterize such dynamics.
