This phenomenon is observed in a context of concurrence of two events: the growth of the urban area of the capital city of the state of Oaxaca and the implementation of cultural diversity recognition policies in this southern political entity of Mexico. The analysis of this situation shows the complexity of intercultural relations and the dilemmas faced by the implementation of recognition policies. El texto discute lo sucedido en un proceso de transformación política de municipios, hasta hace poco rurales, que están siendo incorporados al ámbito de influencia de un centro urbano metropolitano y en el que se expresan las transformaciones en el ejercicio de la ciudadanía comunitaria. Este fenómeno se observa en un contexto de concurrencia de dos acontecimientos: el crecimiento del área urbana de la ciudad capital del estado de Oaxaca y la implementación de políticas de reconocimiento de la diversidad cultural en esta sureña entidad de México. El análisis de esta situación muestra la complejidad de las relaciones interculturales y los dilemas que enfrenta la implementación de políticas del reconocimiento.
