Despite the fact that these conflicts crossed the field of progressive militancy in a transversal way, the text focuses on the specific case of a writer who occupied a leading place among the leftist tendencies of that time. The objective is to investigate how Galeano faced the difficulties posed by exile, namely: nostalgia for his native land, guilt for having exiled himself in the midst of repression, the feeling of cowardice derived from it, the pain for the murder of his friends and the challenge of preparing a critical reflection on his own militancy experience. To these ends, the analysis strategy will aim to distinguish continuities and breaks in the writer's aesthetic and political thought. For this, the work will use as sources the testimonial chronicle Days and Nights of Love and War (2000 [1978]) and different articles that Galeano published between 1976 and 1985.
