I10-R364-article-170302020-02-13T21:00:29Z Interpretations on the bourgeoisie in Brazil during the 20th century Interpretaciones sobre la burguesía en Brasil durante el siglo XX Gutiérrez Garbiero, Gonzalo Burguesía nacional Desarrollismo Brasil National Bourgeoisie Developmentalism Brazil This article presents a reconstruction of the main views that address the study of the national bourgeoisie in Brazil during the 20th century focused on three theoretical movements. The ideas of two key institutions in the theoretical constructions of the period are analyzed: the interpretations of ECLAC and ISEB, concerning the ideas of national developmentalism. In addition, the ideas of five Brazilian authors are presented: Celso Furtado, Florestán Fernandes, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Caio Prado Junior and Ruy Mauro Marini. Although the selected bibliography identifies different characterizations of Brazilian national bourgeoisie, it is noted that all of them tended to give it a central role, either as the cause of its underdevelopment or as the key to overcome it. Currently, the study of the local bourgeoisie continues to be a topic that generates controversies in the theoretical lines of thought that try to understand the contemporary dynamics of capitalist countries and Latin American countries, in particular. Consequently, the aim is to resume said debates in order to build theoretical tools that allow us an approach to the study of the bourgeoisie today.
