In this sense, illegitimate children could stain the honor of a family or of a whole generation, as this could have implications for all members as to question the nobility, limit bridal alternatives, slowing access to bureaucracy or Church, divide the distribution of inheritance. However, through the analysis of the sources, it was observed that in the society of Santa Fe these natural children put into action various strategies to access the recognition and thus be benefited by heredity. It is clear that the control system had some flexibility to cover contingencies, since laws or regulations were solved pragmatically, giving priority to the unwritten law of honor to whom honor is due.
