The central performance of peasantry as a social class in a continent sealed by its insertion in the global market as a raw materials producer, has not been taken into account in most of historiographical approaches, in which prevailed ethnocentric standards linked to the epistemological paradigm of modernity. In this article we have intended to understand why within historical materialism and political parties oriented to revolution, peasantry is rejected as a valid subject for radical social change, even in Latin America, where the essential capitalism contradiction is about land. La disputa por la tenencia y la renta de la tierra ha sido la contradicción capitalista fundamental en América Latina, y enfrentó al trabajo con el capital en la forma del antagonismo campesinado/ burguesía agro-exportadora. La actuación central del campesinado como clase en un continente signado por su inserción en la economía mundial como productor de materias primas, no ha sido tenida en cuenta por la mayor parte de los enfoques historiográficos, en los que primaron criterios etnocéntricos, vinculados con el predominio del paradigma epistemológico moderno. En este trabajo hemos intentado comprender por qué se desecha al campesinado como un sujeto de cambio social radical dentro del materialismo histórico y de los partidos políticos orientados a la revolución, aún en América Latina donde la contradicción fundamental del capitalismo se da en torno a la tenencia y la renta de la tierra.  Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades.
