| Sumario: | The paper describes the historical trajectory of movement of workers in Venezuela, from its first organizational expressions in the late nineteenth century to the performance of its main representative organizations such as CTV (Confederation of Workers of Venezuela) in the last decade of the past century, going through the periods of formation and maturity of the Venezuelan workers’ movement as part of the oil strike of 1936. It is concluded that for 1998-99 the Venezuelan workers’ movement was totally committed to the neoliberal policies that governments of the so call representative democracy executed, without offering the slightest resistance to labor reforms implemented, and in conditions of political and organizational weakness clearly placing it in secondary positions as an actor of the political system in Venezuela. In this employment context the government of Hugo Chavez began in February 1999. |
