It is concluded that for 1998-99 the Venezuelan workers’ movement was totally committed to the neoliberal policies that governments of the so call representative democracy executed, without offering the slightest resistance to labor reforms implemented, and in conditions of political and organizational weakness clearly placing it in secondary positions as an actor of the political system in Venezuela. In this employment context the government of Hugo Chavez began in February 1999. El trabajo expone la trayectoria histórica del movimiento de trabajadores en Venezuela, desde sus primeras expresiones organizativas a fines del siglo XIX, hasta el desempeño de sus principales organizaciones representativas, como la CTV (Confederación de Trabajadores de Venezuela), en la última década del siglo pasado, pasando por los períodos de conformación y madurez del movimiento obrero venezolano en el marco de la huelga petrolera de 1936. Se concluye que para 1998-99 el movimiento obrero venezolano se encontraba totalmente entregado ante las políticas neoliberales que ejecutaban los gobiernos de la llamada democracia representativa, sin ofrecer la menor resistencia a las reformas laborales implementadas, y en condiciones de debilidad política y organizativa que lo ubicaban en posiciones claramente secundarias como actor del sistema político imperante en Venezuela. En ese contexto laboral se inició el gobierno de Hugo Chávez en febrero de 1999. Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades.
