This study investigated the comprehension of immersive and non-immersive images in children aged 30 and 36 months, with and without instruction. In a search task, the same video was presented either via a virtual reality headset or a tablet, with or without information about the function of the images as a source of information to solve the task. The video showed the location of a hidden object in a physical space. The results showed that immersion made the task more difficult in both age groups. The instruction did not lead to any significant differences depending on device or age. Furthermore, learning success during the task was evident regardless of age, instruction or device. Diversas investigaciones estudiaron su comprensión simbólica en tablets, smartphones, televisores. Sin embargo, las imágenes inmersivas constituyen un área en incipiente desarrollo. Este estudio investigó la comprensión simbólica de imágenes inmersivas y no inmersivas en infantes de 30 y 36 meses. Se presentó un mismo video en un casco de realidad virtual o en una tablet proporcionando o no información acerca de su función como fuente de información para resolver una tarea de búsqueda. El video mostraba la localización de un objeto escondido en un espacio físico. Se encontró que en ambas edades la inmersión dificultó la tarea. La extrema similitud entre símbolo y referente impacta en la utilización simbólica de la imagen de realidad virtual. La instrucción no arrojó diferencias significativas por dispositivo o edad. Además, se evidenció un aprendizaje durante la tarea independientemente de edad, instrucción o dispositivo.
