His mother, Rose, was primarily a housewife, but she also sold shoes on weekends. The people who most influenced MP during her childhood were her father and brother Jerome (JP). The first, for his extraordinary dedication to helping others, which was always a powerful example throughout MP's life. Michael Ira Posner (MP) nació en la ciudad de Cincinnati (Ohio, Estados Unidos) el 12 de septiembre de 1936, durante la última etapa de la Gran Depresión. Cuando tenía dos meses de edad, su familia se trasladó a San Bernardino (California), en donde su padre, Philip, trabajó primero para la industria de defensa durante los años de la Segunda Guerra Mundial; y luego como trabajador social con la comunidad judía. Su madre, Rose, fue fundamentalmente ama de casa, pero también vendedora de calzados durante los fines de semana. Las personas que más influyeron sobre MP durante su infancia, fueron su padre y su hermano Jerome (JP). El primero, por su extraordinaria dedicación para ayudar a otras personas, lo cual fue siempre un poderoso ejemplo durante toda la vida de MP.
