In this context, the main characteristics of the journal Index. Revista Ibero-Americana de Análisis Bibliográficos de Neurología y Psiquiatría [Journal of Iber-American Bibliographic Analysis in Neurology and Psychiatry], better known as Index in Neurology and Psychiatry are analyzed. This Journal began to be published in Argentina in July 1938 and continued at least until July 1946. The Journal’s editor was the renowned neurologist Roque Orlando and Enrique Pichon-Rivière was Managing Editor. In the journal, Enrique Pichon-Rivière (1907-1977) wrote 78 book reviews. Both the origin of the reviewed works and the subject matter of them are analyzed. Then, a classification of those reviews in four categories is proposed, and the main characteristics of each one of them are pointed out. Finally, the paper analyzes such books reviews as a part of the early thought of Pichon-Rivière, discussing as well the thesis of the institutional isolation of Pichon Rivière. Concerning its method, the paper is a retrospective ex post facto study, in which the research was conducted in the Archives of the Library of the Medical Sciences School at Buenos Aires University. El trabajo comienza por analizar la función de las revistas científicas en la conformación de las especialidades. En ese contexto, se analizan las características de la revista Index. Revista Ibero-Americana de Análisis Bibliográficos de Neurología y Psiquiatría, más conocida como Index de Neurología y Psiquiatría, que comenzó a ser editada en Argentina en julio de 1938 y continuó al menos hasta julio de 1946. El director o editor era el prestigioso neurólogo Roque Orlando y Enrique Pichon-Rivière fue Secretario de Redacción. En dicha revista, Enrique Pichon-Rivière (1907-1977) realizó 78 reseñas bibliográficas. Se analiza la procedencia de los trabajos reseñados y la temática de los mismos. Posteriormente se procede a realizar una clasificación tentativa de tales reseñas en cuatro categorías y se analizan las características más destacadas de cada una de ellas. El trabajo finaliza señalando el lugar de esa producción en el pensamiento temprano de Pichon-Rivière y discute el supuesto aislamiento institucional de Pichon Rivière que ha subrayado cierta tradición historiográfica. Metodológicamente, el trabajo constituye un estudio ex post facto, en el cual el relevamiento de las fuentes se realizó en el archivo de la hemeroteca de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de la Universidad de Buenos Aires.
