This work features the impact on justice, punishment and guilty topics on extrajudicial actors, focusing the analysis between 1855 and 1862 years. A local newspaper “El Imparcial” is the main source for the investigations of such representations, published by the first time at 1855. By this mean, it is feasibly to notice about the first signs of punitive modernization tending toward “civilized” punishments, features which suggest how the new sensitivities influence the appraisals of torture, death penalty, and the corpse exhibition, among others. At that time, in a scenario considered immature even for radical changes, the minor vagaries sustained over time conceive the source of the future adjustment, completed into the eighties decade. Este artículo explora la dimensión de las sensibilidades penales, es decir de las emociones que suscitan los fenómenos de la penalidad. Recortando el trabajo en el tratamiento que los tópicos de justicia, castigo y pena tuvieron en los actores extrajudiciales, este análisis se centrará en el lapso comprendido entre 1855 y 1862. El diario local El Imparcial -cuyo primer número aparece en 1855- constituye la fuente principal para la indagación de tales representaciones. Es posible advertir que en este medio circulan los primeros rasgos de modernización punitiva tendientes hacia los castigos "civilizados", rasgos que dejan entrever cómo las nuevas sensibilidades influyen en las valoraciones sobre la tortura, la pena de muerte y la exhibición de cadáveres, entre otros. En un escenario considerado inmaduro aún para cambios radicales, las mínimas variaciones sostenidas en el tiempo conforman la base de los futuros cambios, efectivizados recién entrada la década del ochenta.
