Also, despite the implementation of the Estado Novo in 1937, an attempt to placate the workers; in 1942, with the involvement of Brazil in the Second World War and with the purpose of intensifying production, the legislation that protected workers was whittled down.Considering the information about food shortages and the increase in the cost of living, the impact on the life of the Porto Alegre worker is analyzed, as well as, the manner in which in 1945, the workers started a strike movement in the context of the crisis of the Estado Novo.  Entre los años 1942-1945, los trabajadores porto-alegrenses se encontraban inmersos en una economía que podríamos llamar de guerra. Esa economía tuvo implicancias en su calidad de vida, debido a la carestía, especulación y pérdida progresiva del salario real. Asimismo, si bien desde la implementación del Estado Novo en 1937 el gobierno se proponía domesticar a los trabajadores, en 1942, con la intromisión del Brasil en la Segunda Guerra Mundial para lograr la intensificación de la producción, fue recortada la legislación que protegía a los trabajadores. Se pretende a partir del análisis de la escasez de alimentos y aumento del costo de vida, analizar cómo esto afectaba la vida de los trabajadores porto-alegrenses, y a su vez, cómo los trabajadores en 1945 inician un movimiento huelguista en el marco de la crisis del Estado Novo.   Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades.
